Welcome back for part II of the truth about storage unit auctions.

If you haven’t already, please take a moment to read part I.

So to continue my story, I bought what looked like a pretty crappy unit for $510. In the unit there was a couch that was turned up on its side. I am pretty tall, this couch was 75 inches long, so I was able to see the edge of what appeared to be a vintage guitar case up on top of the couch. So I bid up on the unit to see what was in that case. I had a feeling that if there actually was a guitar in that old vintage looking case then there was a good chance it would be valuable.

Turns out my hunch was correct; there was an old guitar in the old case. Here’s a photo of it. It’s a 1975 Fender Mustang. The guitar is all original, it had the original switches, pick-ups, the original everything.

The truth about storage unit auctions is that treasure is usually found amongst a whole lot of trash.

So, I bid on the unit for $510 and found a really cool vintage Fender guitar. And, I also processed a ton of garbage. The couch that I found that I saw that guitar on top of was a piece of crap and I gave it away. There was a lot of shitty old clothes, put those into Good Will bins. There were even a couple bags of rancid food.

I also dug around through a lot of boxes of paper and crappola and I wanted to show you some of the things that I found.

And keep in mind that what you’re about to read and see illustrates the truth about storage unit auctions. It’s all about digging for the treasure.

I found this 1939 Playbill. It sold on eBay for $247.

And I also found this scrapbook and inside the front cover of this scrapbook, somebody wrote their name and the date, 1939. Inside of this scrapbook are a number of really interesting things. Boxing tickets and boxing promotion posters and whatnot from the Golden Age of boxing. 1939 and 1940.
